Prices per square metre in Riga's standard apartment blocks are comparable with their 2006 level, according to a market assessment by Latio reported by TVNET. The company contrasts that with a substantial increase in average wages over the same period.
These homes account for almost half of housing transactions in the Latvian capital. Latio says demand reflects both households looking for somewhere to live and buyers considering property as an investment.
The comparison does not mean prices were unchanged throughout the period: the market rose, fell during the crisis and later recovered. Recent growth also differs between neighbourhoods. The figures describe Latio's assessment of this part of Riga's housing stock, rather than a price forecast for any individual apartment.
